SYNOPSIS CCDPvs CCNPvs
Cisco’s
exam 642-891, Composite (Composite), is a core requirement for the three-exam path
to the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification and to the
two-exam path to the Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) certification.
It is also a one-exam update for both the CCNP and CCDP certifications. It is a
mid level exam for IT professionals who have the skills and knowledge
pertaining to the Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks (BSCI) and Building
Cisco Managed Switched Networks (BCMSN) courses. The candidate must hold a
valid CCNA certification as a prerequisite to this exam.
Cisco does not publish the
pass score for this exam which can include these types of questions: multiple-choice single answer, multiple-choice multiple
answer, drag-and-drop, fill-in-the-blank, and simulations. Note, however, that
Candidates must successfully pass both routing and switching
subsections of the Composite exam to successfully pass the exam. The exam has
between 55 to 65 questions and lasts 60 minutes.
The
general topics covered by this exam include: Technology, Implementation and
Operation, Planning and Design, and Troubleshooting. More specific topics
include:
Foundations 2.0 was cake next to this one. Study MLS and certain routing topics. This was a re-cert and it was not easy. There were lots of EIGRP questions, ISIS, PIM, and even IPv6...
Finally Passed

Just passed today with an 805 passmark 755. It took one hour (The exam is two hours total) and you will need both hands on and theory skills to pass. The practical parts of the exam are new and very complex. This is the second time I have sat the exam the first time the exam crashed and I lost all the data and had to start again. This caused me to rush however I'm not sure if this is why I failed.
Re-certed today with 791/1000

Took this exam this morning for recertification, although I've not been in a network administrator/engineer position for the last 3 years! (I would consider myself as a "Paper"-CCNP and -CCDP). Bought both BSCI and BCMSN books from Cisco and studied them for 2 months (no-lab!). The "Boson"-like simulators provided give a good hint about what you should expect: there will be some (limited) subjects not completely covered in the books. Study how to implement NAT! Understand thoroughly the concepts behind OSPF, IS-IS and BGP. But the most difficult is probably the huge amount of information you have to take in... ! By the way, I was at question 83/88 when the exam crashed... So I had to restard again the whole 88 questions exam (of course, another set of questions)! So, instead of having a 2-hours exam, I got an almost 4-hours exam... Therefore I'm fed up! I hope this doesn't happen all too often.
Lots of Content

First Exam I have failed in four years. The Router/Switch emulater questions are very tough. The exam itself is not tough the questions are relativly easy just allot to remember for one exam. The exam crashed half way though and I had to start from scratch so I am applying for a replacement voucher to sit the exam again. I don't recommend the CISCO Books for this exam. I would recommend the CISCO Flash Cards Book and the SYBBEX Study Materials.
An absolute monster

This is the first Cisco test I've ever failed. I haven't taken a cert test since getting my CCNP two years ago and they've changed everything. I used Cisco Press BSCI & BCMSN books and Boson exams and it wasn't enough. Know QoS inside and out, IS-IS, OSPF, BGP, STP, and Multicasting.
Test was as expected

Not as hard as expected

The exam didn't go into as much detail as expected.
Lot to cover in 1 exam

Passed this first time, do read the latest books as there's lot of new material, also there's a lot of material for just one exam. However, I found this easier than just doing just the routing exam on it's own, as the question pools from routing (hard) and switching (easy).
took twice and jumped back

I took this test twice and ran out of time both times....this must be the money cow for Cisco. I took the tests seperately and passed easily. A lot (LOT) of info to hold for one test. I think it was a little over a hundred questions, and you had 120 minutes. I agree with the other comments and do not recommend for the faint-at-heart.
not for the old school
jerkiest on Wednesday, October 29, 2003
if you are taking this test to recertify...plan on purchasing the newer books. Older bcsn and bcmsn will be of no use here. That simulator used must have came with the newer CCNA material. It is not included in the bcsi or bcmsn from what i've seen. I found it difficult to navigate at best. The scenario and objectives have to be read either 3 words on a line or 3 lines to a box before having to scroll. That should sink even some of the best.
