SYNOPSIS • MCSE 2003 vs
Microsoft’s exam 70-298, “Designing Security for a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network is a core or elective requirement for the MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) on Microsoft Windows 2003 or MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer):Security on Microsoft Windows 2003 certification.

It is designed for candidates who operate in medium to very large computing environments that use the Windows Server 2003 network operating system. There is no specific prerequisite for this exam but Microsoft recommends that candidates have a minimum of one year of experience designing network security in the type of environment described here.

As well, Microsoft says that a candidate should have at least one year of experience in the following areas: Designing a network infrastructure and Implementing and administering a desktop operating system.

Beginning with the release of the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 related exams, Microsoft will provide numerical scores on exams. By the end of September 2003, most exams will have the new score report format, which includes this numerical score. The new scale requires a minimum passing score of 700 on all exams. The maximum score on the exams will vary depending on the complexity of the skills being measured.

Note that Microsoft does not document the format of the particular exam. However, Microsoft might include adaptive testing technology and simulation items. Formally, they do not identify the format in which exams are presented.

The domains of this exam are:
  • Analyzing Business Requirements
  • Analyzing Technical Requirements
  • Analyzing Security Requirements
  • Designing a Windows 2000 Security Solution
  • Designing a Security Solution for Access Between Networks
  • Designing Security for Communication Channels

It is hard to say but majority of questions (and answers) are available in Internet (TestKing, Transcender, etc). I passed it quite easy today (with score 865) along with 70-350 (with score 841). I'm not sure if there is sense to further recertificate when exams for new Windows version available (but perhaps Microsoft will change something).

I had 4 or 5 case studies with about 30 or 33 questions. The most difficult part is to read through all the information before you answer the questions. I would recommend reading the questions first then reading the case study.

Once you get used to the case scenarios it seems fairly straight forward. I took 70-294, 70-291, and 70-293 prior to this one so that helped alot. For me I had to go straight to the questions and skim the case for information pertaining to the question. Once I got all the way through the questions I reread the scenario and reviewed the questions once more.

... there were masses of information to take in before you could begin to answer some of the questions. Which i suppose makes it a reasonable approximation of trying to assess a clients needs. It's the first of the scenario type exams i've sat and i didn't enjoy it. I suggest getting hold of a good practice exam for this to give you a good feel for where to find the relevant information. already having passed 70-299 helped. I passed with 919. good luck to anyone taking this.

Untitled Document > Persistent Group Chat: An Approach for More Profitable Team Communications : Unlike email, instant messages (IMs) do not allow group communication; nor do they persist -- you can't hold on to them for as long as you wish. Persistent group chat, however, allows businesses to organize persistent dialogue around business-critical topics, and keep them for easy retrieval later.
